VX2100
The Sony VX2100 is well known to professional videographers as one of the finest camcorders available. It is a 3 CCD model with optical image stabilisation and fantastic colour reproduction.
It's features and general specification is comparable to other high end cameras, but in low light conditions other cameras are left far behind as the VX2100 has exceptional low light performance. This is particularly useful in situations where extra lighting would be inappropriate or even totally unavailable, e.g. we use the VX2100 extensively for Virtual Tours since it would not be possible to move large amounts of studio lighting around the inside a house while still maintaining the freedom of movement that our Glidecam operators enjoy, and the resulting video that this produces.
Glidecam 2000 Pro
In addition to the VX2100, we make use of the Glidecam 2000 pro. This device (commonly known as a Steadicam which is another make of stabiliser), makes an enormous difference to the kind of video we are able to shoot.
Without some sort of stabilising device, we would be limited to static shots (i.e. shot from a tripod) or handheld shots. Although handheld shots offer at least as much freedom to move around that our stabiliser allows, video shot without a stabiliser will in most circumstances look extremely amatuerish and in a lot of cases be completely unusable if professional standards are to be maintained.
The setup and operation of a Steadicam type of device is an art in itself. It's one of those skills that looks easy enough but requires much practice to achieve the desired results. In fact, used by an inexperienced operator, the results can often be worse than if shot handheld. However, when setup and operated correctly, the results are amazing.
